Automattic announced that WordPress.com will now include a built-in AI assistant designed to help users edit websites using natural language commands. The assistant understands a site’s content and layout, enabling changes to design, structure, and styling directly within the editor.

The AI assistant can update written content, suggest headlines, provide grammar and fact-checking support, and translate text inside the WordPress block editor introduced in version 6.9. It also integrates image-generation capabilities powered by Google Gemini models, allowing users to create or edit visuals from the Media Library.

The feature is optional and currently supports block themes, with automatic activation for customers using WordPress.com’s AI website builder.
