Yann LeCun’s AMI Labs Unveils World-Model Strategy With Paris Headquarters

Yann LeCun has formally outlined the research direction of AMI Labs, confirming that the new venture will focus on building “world models” designed to enable AI systems to understand and reason about the real world. The startup, whose name stands for Advanced Machine Intelligence, positions itself as a research-led alternative to large language model–centric approaches.

LeCun serves as executive chairman, while Alex LeBrun, former chief executive of Nabla, leads the company as CEO. AMI Labs plans to license its technology for high-stakes applications including healthcare, robotics, automation, and industrial systems, emphasizing reliability, safety, and controllability. Headquartered in Paris with additional offices planned globally, the company aims to collaborate closely with industry partners while contributing research through open publications and open source initiatives.
