Microsoft has announced a $17.5 billion investment in India over the next four years to scale its artificial intelligence and cloud capabilities in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital economies. The initiative — Microsoft’s largest investment in Asia — includes new data centers, expanded AI compute capacity, and major skilling programs planned between 2026 and 2029.

The announcement follows CEO Satya Nadella’s visit to New Delhi and meetings with government leadership as India accelerates nationwide digital transformation. As part of the expansion, Microsoft will open a new data-center region in Hyderabad by mid-2026 and continue growing existing regions in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune to support rising demand from enterprises, startups, and public-sector agencies.

Microsoft will also integrate Azure OpenAI services into major labor platforms including e-Shram and the National Career Service, enabling multilingual access, AI-driven job matching, and predictive analytics for more than 300 millionworkers. Additionally, new sovereign cloud offerings will support Indian customers with strict data-residency and regulatory requirements.

Alongside infrastructure, Microsoft is doubling its workforce training goals and now plans to provide AI skills to 20 million people in India by 2030, reinforcing its role as a long-term technology partner in the region’s AI-first future.
