Netflix confirmed in its latest quarterly earnings report that it is strategically positioned to leverage advances in generative AI to improve film and television production. While stating that AI will not replace human creativity, the company said it views the technology as a tool to enhance efficiency and storytelling for its creative teams and partners.

The company has already integrated AI-generated visuals into select productions, including the Argentine sci-fi series The Eternaut, where AI was used to depict a collapsing building, and in Happy Gilmore 2, to de-age characters in early scenes. AI has also been adopted in pre-production workflows such as wardrobe and set design.

CEO Ted Sarandos underscored that AI’s role at Netflix is to augment human artistry, not substitute it. The announcement comes as the entertainment industry debates how generative AI should be deployed, particularly amid concerns over deepfakes and content authenticity. Netflix’s statement signals a clear direction: embracing AI as a behind-the-scenes creative accelerator rather than a replacement for talent.
