Meta has entered into a licensing agreement with Midjourney, the fast-growing AI startup led by CEO David Holz, to integrate its image and video generation technology into future Meta products and models. The deal, announced by Alexandr Wang, Meta’s Chief AI Officer, underscores the company’s strategy to strengthen its AI portfolio through partnerships with industry leaders.

The collaboration positions Meta to better compete with rivals such as OpenAI’s Sora, Google’s Veo, and Black Forest Lab’s Flux. Meta already offers its own image tool, Imagine, and AI video generator, Movie Gen, across Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.

This agreement follows Meta’s aggressive AI investments, including a $14 billion stake in Scale AI, the acquisition of voice startup Play AI, and a high-profile AI talent hiring spree led by Mark Zuckerberg. Founded in 2022, Midjourney has become a dominant player in AI-generated visuals, reportedly generating $200 million in revenue in 2023.

The partnership highlights Meta’s push to stay ahead in the AI race while Midjourney remains independent and continues to build its reputation as a subscription-driven AI innovator.
