Meta has reportedly secured the hire of two senior researchers from OpenAI — Jason Wei and Hyung Won Chung — to join its recently launched Superintelligence Lab, according to Wired. Both researchers have deactivated their internal OpenAI Slack profiles, signaling their departure from the company.

Wei played a central role in developing OpenAI’s o3 model, with a background in chain-of-thought research from his time at Google. Chung, who also worked at Google before OpenAI, contributed to early reasoning models like o1, focusing on AI agents and alignment. Their long-standing collaboration appears to have made them a strategic dual hire for CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who is aggressively assembling elite research teams to advance Meta’s ambitions in artificial general intelligence.
