EdgeCortix, a fabless semiconductor company based in Tokyo, has been awarded ¥3 billion (approximately $21 million) by Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) to accelerate development of NovaEdge, its next-generation energy-efficient AI chiplet for edge computing.

NovaEdge is designed for high-performance generative AI inference and real-time on-device learning, aiming to deliver superior power efficiency and adaptability in edge environments. The chiplet is built on EdgeCortix’s Dynamic Neural Accelerator (DNA) architecture, combining programmable AI processing with RISC-V general-purpose cores in a scalable, low-power form factor.

CEO Sakyasingha Dasgupta said, “NovaEdge represents a major leap forward, enabling robust, adaptable, and real-time generative AI capabilities directly at the edge.” He emphasized that this milestone reinforces the company’s mission to lead Japan’s fabless semiconductor innovation across critical sectors like robotics, space, smart manufacturing, and defense.

NovaEdge will be fabricated using TSMC technology and is slated for production at the JASM facility in Kumamoto. With this grant, EdgeCortix has now received ¥7 billion (approx. $49 million) in public R&D support from NEDO, following a previous award for AI chiplets for post-5G systems in November 2024.
