Originally estimated between $120,000 (£9,252) and $180,000 (£139,000), the piece, titled “A.I. God,” set a new auction benchmark for AI-generated art. Sotheby’s called the sale a milestone that marks “a new frontier in the global art market,” reflecting the intersection of AI technology and contemporary art.
Ai-Da’s creator, Aidan Meller, stated that the sale highlights the impact of AI on the art world and society. Ai-Da described the work’s purpose as provoking dialogue on the ethical and societal implications of AI, pointing to Turing’s visionary role in computer science and artificial intelligence.
