A portrait of World War Two codebreaker Alan Turing, created by the AI robot Ai-Da, sold at Sotheby’s for $1,084,800 (£836,667) after attracting 27 bids. Originally estimated between $120,000 (£9,252) and $180,000 (£139,000), the piece, titled “A.I. God,” set a new auction benchmark for AI-generated art. Sotheby’s called the sale a milestone that marks “a new frontier in the global art market,” reflecting the intersection of AI technology and contemporary art.

Ai-Da’s creator, Aidan Meller, stated that the sale highlights the impact of AI on the art world and society.
