Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, and the estate of Frank Sinatra, among 200 artists, are calling for a halt to the predatory use of artificial intelligence (AI) in music, highlighting concerns over fair compensation and human artistry.

In a joint statement facilitated by the Artists’ Rights Alliance, they criticize tech giants like YouTube for experimenting with AI music tools, fearing these innovations could infringe on artists’ rights and devalue human creativity.

“We must protect against the predatory use of AI to steal artists’ voices and likenesses,” they said.

The artists argue that using their work to train AI without consent is an assault on creativity, risking the integrity of the music ecosystem. While the misuse of AI has sparked debate, following incidents like the viral AI-generated song mimicking Drake and The Weeknd, not all musicians are against AI in music. Figures like Grimes and DJ David Guetta support AI’s potential, with Grimes offering to share royalties on AI tracks using her voice.
